Historical Lineage: Shuri-te

Meaning: "Pinan (平安) translates to "Peaceful Mind" or "Safe and Secure." The Pinan series consists of five katas, each focusing on balance, basic stances, and foundational techniques.

Key Facts: The Pinan (or Heian) kata was created by Anko Itosu as a teaching tool for children in Okinawa. It was designed to introduce the fundamental movements of Karate while building physical fitness, balance, and discipline.
